Table Tennis.
Darius Knight is a professional English table tennis player, he represented England in the Olympics, however he lost in R16 (Round 16). On September 17th 2015, Darius came to ICS to give a few tips on ping-pong to the ping pong students. His tips were based on the Forehand Drive, the Backhand Drive. The students that attended also played a few games with a member of his team, Lina. All the students that take part in the ping pong club learnt great tips from the experience and worked on their weaknesses, turning them into strengthens in ping-pong.

Everyone seemed to have a delightful time during the event.
-Giulia states, “I got time to spend time with my mum at school and we never get the opportunity to do that. The fact that our parents got to experience what a bake sale was a really cool experience. It was as if they were having an experience of the school”.
-Giulia’s mom said, “I never knew a bake sale would be as full as it was and that lots of people would contribute to a fantastic event”. She also said that “I loved it because I got to meet lots of new parents”.
I personally think that, the MacMillian coffee morning was an excellent event hosted by the the five DP1 students. The event was a phenomenal way of getting the community together to raise money and awareness and for a fantastic cause ‘Cancer research’.
Overall It was a very busy yet productive morning and what a better way it was to get the community together by having a coffee morning. However, I think we could all use a Macmillan coffee morning annually, right? I mean honestly how entertaining would that be having a traditional Macmillan coffee morning?and especially in the beginning of the year to bring the community together.

Wear It Pink Event.
On the 12th of November, the MYP3 students: Giulia, Sarah, Batrisyia, Manca, Elena, Fereshteh, Luisa and Jerusa organized a Wear it Pink event. The Wear it Pink event is an organization that invests on breast cancer research for curing the disease as any stage. The event was founded in 2002 and to date they have raised £27 million from the generosity of thousands of people in the UK. In the Wear It Pink event at school, everyone was asked to wear pink to show their support towards breast cancer or students and teachers could purchase a pink ribbon for a pound. The event consisted of a bake sale during both break and lunch A, there were various pink treats to nibble on, from donuts to cupcakes and even Italian treats, that were contributed by some of the students in MYP1, 2, 3 and MYPP 1’s and 2’s in the bake sale.
During the first lunch, there were several activities to participate in such as the photo booth, which was held inside the fire exit corridor, an egg and spoon race which was held in the canteen and the whisper challenge, which was played in the library. Overall, the wear it pink event was very successful and a well hosted event, this is shown through student’s reviews. Lulwah in MYP1 said, “I really liked the event as there were a lot of things to do! I had fun at break and lunch because in break we had a bake sale and everything there was a delicious and during lunch there was a lot of activities which were remarkably fun!. The Wear it Pink event was the best event so far, Good job to the MYP3 girls for hosting such a phenomenal event!” Batrisyia an MYP3 said “As one of the co-organizers I think that the event went on quite well since several activities were successfully organized resulting a good amount of donations from people. I’m really glad that both teachers and students had an opportunity to contribute to the event by either wearing pink, buying goods from the sale or joining the activity.” To conclude, people thought the event was great overall and that there was a lot of effort put into this event by the hosts. Would you like ICS to have more interactive events including activities? And if so what additional activities would you like? Don’t hesitate to create your own event with your friends on something you're truly interested in. For now Wear it Pink and Spread the word as ICS “Supports the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the taken and never give up on hope” on those impacted by breast cancer. International Food Day.
|
On the 18th of November the MYP5’s hosted an international foods day at school. The event consisted of the MYP5’s students showcasing the country's culture they had been assigned to do and what better way to do that by accompanying their presentations with traditional food? The students have been researching information such as religion, cuisine, language, arts etc. about their assigned countries for over a month.
An enormous amount of planning was taken to this event as shown by their incredible food stalls. Teresa in DP1 says “I found the event spectacular and each year the event keeps getting better. It was evident that from the decoration and creativity into the stalls that the student invested a lot of their time into this event.” On the day of the event the students had to bring their ingredients to school and prepare their traditional dish during school. Along with preparing their dishes they also had to put their stalls up well decorated in the amount of four to 5 hours. Majed was one of the hosts of the event and says that “preparing the stalls was one the most stressful things that I had to do because at first things were not going as planned with my stall. However at the end I managed to pull it off.” Whereas Hessa was another host of the event and said that “preparing my stall was not stressful for the most part as I had planned what I was going to put in my stall in advance, however the pins that I was using to stick my things kept on falling.” As mentioned before the students all had to cook their food in the school's kitchen which made it a very stressful and chaotic environment to be in. Jazmine (one of the hosts) said “Cooking was the most difficult aspect as the whole kitchen kept on shutting down and myself and some other students had to keep on turning the fuse box. At the end we had to transition to a different kitchen overall the cooking process was not smooth.” Finally the time had come when the MYP5’s had to share all their hard work and they did this during the last two periods of the day. Pupils seemed to love and enjoy the event for numerous reasons Sarah in MYP3 said “ I liked the event a lot because firstly we could eat different kinds of food whilst learning about cultures.” The purpose of the internationals food day was to raise awareness about the different cultures around the globe and within our school community. The hosts managed to do that successfully through giving out quizzes or playing a games to test the audience’s knowledge about their presented information. Jerusa (MYP3) 20-11-15 |
