ICS Photography.
The Personal Project Exhibition Day took place on Wednesday the 4th of March. This day was especially to learn about and honour MYP5's projects which they have been working on for six months. Below are some pictures token of students with their projects on display.
Mohamed Personal Project was a book he produced about Ancient Egypt for children under eight years old to learn about the country. The purpose of his project was to help him gain more knowledge about his mother's country as he felt unfamiliar to it and by doing this he also wanted to teach and share his knowledge with other through his creative book. |
Teresa Personal Project was a 1920's theme inspired cake which she designed and made. Teresa shared with us a video, an amazing homemade Victoria Sponge Cake and lets not forget her the structure of the cake she designed and made expressing her personal ideas of the values of the 1920's through the design of her cake. |
Kristina Personal Project was based on her own identity. She produced a video talking about her journey moving from Ukraine to live here in London. Her 3min long video was inspiring and touched us all as she shared the most significant aspects of her journey and who she is. So as we have learn "Never forget who you are and where you come from"-Kristina |
Micayla Personal Project was also a video promoting our school ICS. She creatively shares aspects about ICS from different point of view from old to new students and staff members here at ICS. It was wonderful to also learn about what people think about ICS and how our community has helped others development. |
International Day
Last week, the MYP5 students organized International Day. I hope everyone had the opportunity of trying new cultural dishes, and hopefully learnt something too! We had a lovely range of foods from countries all over the world, including Morocco (done by Yaqut ), Pakistan (Kristina ), Brazil (Daniel ), Japan (Danial ) (Arisa ), Hungary (Quentin ), Greece American (Emma ), Colombia (Marnix ), Ireland (Pawel ), Switzerland (Mohamed ), Spain (Obaid ) and the Maldives (Teresa ). For those who visited my booth, I hope you enjoyed Kiflice, a Serbian cheese roll. The recipe is very straightforward, and uses common household ingredients. It takes approximately 1 ½ hours to make!

Notable Moments of the night:
Kanye West wasn’t suppose to come and perform to the show but he insisted, it was a last minute decision. While performing his new single, the song was muted repeatedly because of a lot of explicit language.
During a Presentation, Madonna had a wardrobe malfunction and fell in her performance. Her cape was too tight, when she was suppose to take it off it didn’t and she fell because of the force pulling her. But like a pro, after a few seconds, she continued performing.

Drawing this painting took about 2 months basically 2 hours every week. The whole painting was drawn using oil paint. I didn’t use a pallet knife but I could use it, instead of a palette knife I used my fingers because I wanted to make the painting look like a real sunset.
What I really like about this painting are all the bright colours and the sunset. The feeling of this painting is a mix of sadness and happiness. The sadness is shown through the sunset and happiness is shown by the bright colours. All the bright colours make the painting unique and the mountain make it more attractive. I avoided using black for mountains and clouds because it could make it thick and then the feeling wasn’t shown, so I used dark blue instead of black. The whole painting is made of three parts blue sky, red sky and sea. I used dark clouds to match the two skies. All the white colours in the first sky were tricks to make the base for mixing two skies. I repeated the colours about 6 times for the sky and 7 times for sea to find the colour that I wanted. For the base I just drew the boat and mountain and I coloured them without adding shadows. I made the basic background and then I started to give them shapes. All the shadows on the sea and the shadow for the boat were the last part. I make sure that the painting was completely dried and I used painting brushes to draw the shadows.
All the parts have different directions for instance the direction of blue sky has oblique position and the sea and the red sky are horizontally drawn. Something that really helped me to make the painting lively was the yellow vertical lines that were added at the end. I used a model to draw this painting but I made a few changes. To draw shadows for sun I used 5 vertical lines with 5 different colours then I blended all horizontally. This painting wasn’t a really hard painting but it needed to be accurate and took too long to repeat all the colours again and again.

Poetry.
But You Didn’t
I have found this beautiful poem which I want to share with you. It tells a touching story of everlasting love and dealing with death of the closest ones. The author of the poem was an ordinary American women, whose husban was drafted into the army and went to the battlefields of Vietnam when their daughter was four years old. From that point on, she and her daughter only had each other. Later, her husband unfortunately died on the battlefield. She was widowed, until she died of old age. When her daughter was organising her remains. She discovered this poem her mother written to her father back then titled "But You Didn't".

Short story.
Blue Dragon Reloaded Prologue
Here I have a small sample of a story that I have been working on...
Two ten year-olds ran through the forest surrounding Talta village leading up to a small set of ruins. The first of the pair was a boy with long spiky hair tied up in a jagged ponytail, wearing a dark blue, almost black tank top, yellow shorts and brown boots with blue bracelets on his wrists and matching blue socks and onyx eyes. The second of the two was a girl, she was wearing a sleeveless magenta dress tied with a yellow sash around her waist with red sweat bands and matching socks and brown boots, she had peach coloured hair done up in a ponytail as well. The girl had a look of fear on her face, while the boy in front of her had a look of fierce determination on his face, as the two ran through the forest. A couple hundred feet behind them, was a squad of Gran Kingdom Soldiers, each had their gun trained on the two kids, who were steadily getting farther and farther from the soldiers, until they were out of sight. The two kids burst out of the forest, and found themselves in front of the small set of ruins just outside of their village. The two strained their ears, and were relieved when they heard the shouts and footsteps of the soldiers slowly fading into the distance, until it was finally silent again. The two kids sat on some ruined pillars, wiping the sweat off their brows, before the girl moved, some hair out of her face and trained her olive green eyes on her companion. “What do you do now Shu?”
The boy now known as Shu snapped his head, in her direction and looked at her for a long while before answering. “I don't think there's really much we can do Kluke. Especially with the Gran Kingdom soldiers around here and in the village. We'll just have to take shelter in the ruins until either they leave or Gramps and the others manage to fight them off”. Shu said looking at her.
Kluke sighed sadly and nodded before the two stood up and entered the ruins, looking around in awe at the interior. Ever inch of the inside of the ruins was was either blue or white marble and on the wall right in front of them, was a mural depicting a massive blue dragon with intense emerald eyes, and a muscular body and powerful looking legs. For some odd reason Shu felt drawn to it, and slowly walked forward until he was standing directly in front of the painting, and slowly laid a hand on it. Kluke looked in surprise at what Shu was doing and slowly walked forward until she was right next to him. They stood their quietly until Shu broke the silence.
“Hey Kluke. Do remember when we used to listen to all those old stories? Y'know the ones about the Soldiers Of Light”? Shun asked in a soft voice not taking his eyes, off the painting. Kluke looked at Shu in surprise before responding. “Yeah. I remember when we were little, we used to pretend to be the Soldiers Of Light. And pretend to be able to summon, those shadows just like they would. Kluke said looking up at the mural. Shu smiled softly and looked up as well. “Yeah I would always pretend, that I had a really strong shadow. And that I was pretty much invincible, and no one could beat me”. Shun said softly.
Kluke looked at Shu for a moment before smiling as well. “Yeah, I remember pretending to have a shadow too. And I would always be able to protect the ones I cared about and fight and win. My god it seems like a million years ago when we first discovered the ruins up here in the hills. Remember? When we came up here, with Tsubasa and Taichi?” Kluke asked smiling broadly now. This caused Shu to laugh and turn to her, nodding.
Suddenly however the two suddenly froze, when they heard the sound of a gun being cocked and both turned around slowly to see a large portion of the Gran Kingdom forces with their guns trained on the two children. The two kids stared wide eyed before Shu suddenly glared at the soldiers and pulled Kluke behind her. The two heard footsteps, and a man walked forward, he had long blonde hair that reached down, past his neck and was wearing a long orange coat, with a gold trim, pale yellow boots and gloves and a long blue cape billowing in the wind behind him, he had gray-brown eyes and a long pale scar that, covered his left eye and went down the length of his face. He stared down Shu for a minute before he suddenly smirked darkly. “I have a feeling you're not going to be surrendering to me are you?” The man asked in a deep voice, making Shu glare harder at him. “Like hell I will! I don't care if you are Gran Kingdom, I'll never back down, ever!” Shu shouted out defiantly. A soldier attempted to shoot but the man held up his hand and closed his, but didn't lose his smirk.
“I see, I was hoping to do this peacefully, but I see now I'll have to take a different approach, but I suppose it was inevitable”. He said before he suddenly surrounded himself in a green aura, as the ground began to shake. His shadow began to stretch out behind him and began to take on a shape of a winged warrior with a pointed helmet. His shadow then took shape until it's shape was a muscular female warrior, coloured a deep green, with long hair in a braid. She wore a large piece of torso armour, and green angelic wings, and a large intricate sword and shield, and red eyes. Instead of feet, she had a long tail that ran down back down, behind his feet. Shu stared at him wide-eyed before speaking. “Who...who are you?” Shu asked staring at him. The man smirked and so did his Shadow. “I am General Logi, leader of the Independent Flying Squadron, as well as one of Nene's right hand Generals. And of course my Shadow..Valkyrie”. The man known as Logi said smiling. His shadow spread her wings and smirked down at the two children. “And now you realise how foolish it was to challenge my master...I am his sword and his shield, and all who oppose my master, will die”! She exclaimed and suddenly Valkyrie brought her sword down, forcing the two kids to quickly roll out of the way, but the force of the swing threw the two to the floor and kicking up a dust cloud obscuring, Shu's vision until Logi's shadow thrust her sword forward puncturing the dust cloud. “AHHHHHHHH!!!!” Shu heard an all too familiar scream that made his blood run cold and he whipped his head around in time to see a muscular soldier, with silver hair, with white baggy pants, black and blue boots and chest armour and a blue scarf, that also covered his right shoulder. He trained his dark blue eyes on Shu and suddenly smirked darkly and motioned upward. Shu snapped his head upward and his eyes widened when he saw that the man, also had a shadow, that looked like some sort of Chinese warrior with a mask, blue hair and armour and a shield. In his shadow's grasp was Kluke who struggling vehemently against it's grip. Shun stared at them for a minute before he glared at the shadow wielder and attempted to rush him. “Put her down you bastard”! Shu yelled, but before he could even get close, Shu felt pain explode throughout his body.
Green electricity surrounded Shu as it shocked his entire body. From within the crowd of soldiers, was another shadow wielder that looked exactly like the one who was holding Kluke captive. His shadow also looked the same but instead used a sword, which was generating the electricity that was currently electrocuting Shu. Finally Shu felt himself ready to collapse just as the electricity ceased and Shun fell forward face first onto the ground, letting out a groan as the world around him began to blur.
“Shu, no”! Kluke screamed but suddenly closed her eyes as she felt the pressure increase and the pain intensify until she finally went slack from the pain. The shadow released it's grip on the girl and she fell to the floor while it's wielder smirked.Nail “Gustav, Invanov what's the status on the village”. Logi said addressing the twin wielders. The two snapped to attention as they turned to face the General. “Everything is going according to plan sir. We have nearly fully supressed the pitiful resistance of the citizens and should have them on ship momentarily. The red head said saluting the General who nodded.
Shu opened his eyes and found himself in a strange void, filled with different colours consisting of blue, red, white, black and green. Shu looked around before he suddenly remembered what was happening and looked around rapidly. “Crap! Where the hell am I? This isn't the ruins, and why am I here any way, I have to do something about Gran Kingdom...But what can I do”? Shu suddenly asked himself as a despondent looked crossed his face. “I don't even have the power to beat Logi and those two twin shadow wielders. But I can't just give up! But what can I do?” Shu asked himself. If you had power...What would you do with it A deep voice suddenly rumbled. Shu's head snapped up and he stared wide-eyed at the dark shape in front of him. In had a similar shape to the mural in the ruins except the shape kept distorting itself. “Wha...Who are you”? Shu asked the being, there was a deep chuckle that echoed all around him. Who I am isn't important, what is important is your answer, so I ask again. What would you do if you truly had power?
Shu stared at the being before him, before he felt a torrent of memories crash into him: Everything from the death of his parents to what was happening now; The Gran Kingdom invasion. Finally Shu couldn't take the stress of everything as he felt his rage and desperation build up to a breaking point “I WANT TO SAVE EVERYONE!!” Shu was then surrounded by a massive blue light as the shadows left the being in front of Shu, and the world the two were in exploded into bright blue light.
